ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A St. Johns County man jailed on charges of shooting his dog to death is now facing an additional animal fighting charge after deputies say he posted a video to Instagram showing his dogs attacking a boar with its feet tied together.

Jake Cameron Matthew, 34, was charged Sept. 23 at the St. Johns County Jail with another count of using an animal for fighting or baiting, a third-degree felony, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. He has been in custody since his Sept. 17 arrest for the death of his dog, Daisy.

The new charge stems from a 36-second video that detectives say Matthew recorded on July 30 in the front yard of his Ninth Street home and posted to his Instagram account. In the video, taken after dark, Matthew’s two adult dogs repeatedly bite the face and neck of a live boar, “causing the boar the squeal uncontrollably in pain,” according to the report.

St. Johns County man charged with felony animal cruelty after dog shot 5 times

A St. Johns County man faces felony animal cruelty and weapons charges after deputies say he shot his dog, Daisy, to death in his backyard in August.

A rope tied around the boar’s front and back feet kept it from running and left it defenseless, the report stated. Detectives stated that Matthew’s right arm, identified by a round tattoo visible in the video, can be seen pulling the rope to knock the boar off its feet so the dogs could keep attacking its neck from both sides.

The video’s caption read, “This is what my dogs do. They’re workers.”

The video described in the arrest report remained publicly visible on the Instagram account named in the report as of Sept. 29, a HomeFetch review found.

The two dogs seen in the video were seized from Matthew’s home on Sept. 2 when deputies served a search warrant, according to the report.

Matthew was first arrested on charges of aggravated animal cruelty, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, knowingly giving false information to law enforcement, unlawful disposal of a dead animal and using an animal for fighting or baiting. Detectives believe he used a 9 mm handgun to kill Daisy in his backyard on Aug. 25. Her decapitated remains were found the net day in a vacant lot behind his home.

Bond on the new charge was set to $2,500, bringing his total bond to $48,250, court records show. He remained in custody as of Sept. 29.
