Travel is, quite literally, going to the dogs.
More Americans are bringing their dogs on vacation with them, according to new data released by TripAdvisor.
The online travel agency reported a 260 percent increase in pet-friendly bookings on its platform, according to its annual Trendcast report, which analyzes recent searches and booking data across TripAdvisor’s global site.
TripAdvisor did not specify which types of accommodations drove the increase or whether it reflects new travelers bringing pets for the first time or repeat travelers taking multiple pet-inclusive trips.
The company said the growth spans hotels, vacation rentals and experiences designed to include pets, ranging “from luxury pet amenities to animal encounters.”
“This year’s Trendcast continues to reflect a shift in how people are approaching travel, with experiences increasingly leading travel decisions,” said Laurel Greatrix, chief communications officer at Tripadvisor. “Across searches, bookings, and reviews, we see consistent patterns: travelers are prioritizing experiences that create local connection, offer physical challenge, and make it easier for the whole group to say yes. These aren’t fringe behaviors — they’re reshaping how trips get planned.”
TripAdvisor said pet-friendly listings have become more prominent across travel platforms, particularly in destinations that market outdoor access, walkability and dog-friendly amenities.
